Flames unveil 2004-era ‘Black C’ throwback jerseys

To commemorate their final season at the iconic Scotiabank Saddledome, the Calgary Flames have thrown it back to their 2004 Stanley Cup Final run with special new alternate jerseys.

The new jerseys are essentially replicas of the red home uniforms the Flames wore between the 2003-04 and 2006-07 seasons, before the switch to the Reebok Edge jersey template. They feature a black version of the “Flaming C” logo and shoulder patches of the popular “Blasty” crest, along with a chevron-shaped waist striping pattern.

The Flames will wear the jerseys four times during the 2026-27 regular season, once against each of the four teams they faced during the 2004 playoffs. The club officially unveiled the jerseys during the first period of their preseason game against the Vancouver Canucks, one of those 2004 opponents, at the Saddledome on Tuesday; Flames alumni Robyn Regehr and Martin Gelinas were on hand for the announcement.

The Flames will wear the “new” uniforms for the first time on Oct. 24 when they welcome the Detroit Red Wings to the Saddledome. Replica jerseys will become available at the CGY Team Store on Oct. 23.

While wearing the black C, the Flames defeated the Canucks, Red Wings, and San Jose Sharks in the first three rounds of the 2004 playoffs to become Western Conference champions. They subsequently took on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final, losing in seven games — although Flames fans maintain that Gelinas was denied his rightful Cup-winning goal on home ice in Game 6.

After wearing the jerseys against Detroit on Oct. 24, the Flames will bring them out again when they host the Canucks on Boxing Day, and then when the Sharks come to town on Dec. 29. They’ll wear them one last time against the Lightning on Jan. 9.

It’s unclear whether the Flames will keep the 2004 throwbacks in their rotation beyond the 2026-27 season, but for now, they appear to be supplanting the team’s black Blasty jerseys as their primary alternate uniform. The Flames will also wear a fourth jersey in 2026-27, which will be part of the leaguewide “Hometown Remix” program to be announced at a later date.
