The Philadelphia Flyers will return a pair of top-six forwards tonight against the Utah Mammoth. According to contributor Bill Meltzer, the Flyers have activated Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett from the injured reserve.

Konecny, 29, has missed Philadelphia’s last 10 games with a lower-body injury. Suffered on October 8th against the Ottawa Senators, the Flyers’ second-highest-paid forward missed the rest of October. Before the injury, Konecny registered three assists in five games with a -4 rating, averaging 16:49 of ice time per game.

Meanwhile, the Flyers have also been without Tippett for the back half of October. Tippett scored one goal and two points in nine games with a -2 rating, averaging 16:26 of ice time before suffering an upper-body injury against the Detroit Red Wings on October 15th.

Impressively, all three of Philadelphia’s wins this season came without their top two forwards. Unfortunately, Konecny and Tippett aren’t returning to a team that has suddenly become competitive. The Flyers are in the Eastern Conference’s basement with a 3-8-4 record through their first 15 games.

If that continues throughout the season, Konecny and Tippett will increasingly see their names mentioned in trade rumors. Shortly after he went down with his lower-body ailment, Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff suggested that the Flyers’ front office has grown impatient with Konecny and may look to include him in trade conversations more seriously. Meanwhile, Tippett has popped up in trade speculation for the past several years.

Regardless, trading either player won’t be simple. Konecny is signed through the 2032-33 season with a full no-movement clause, whereas Tippett is signed through the 2031-32 season with a 10-team no-trade list until the 2029-30 campaign.
