Couturier, who has overcome numerous injury issues in his career but has stayed relatively healthy throughout each of the past two seasons, was off to a very productive start to his season. Through nine games, Couturier had recorded two goals and seven assists while skating to a plus-1 rating while logging an average of 19:35 of time on ice per game.
The Arizona native and 2011 eighth overall NHL Draft pick skated in 79 regular season contests for the Flyers last year, putting up 45 points, his most since the pandemic-shorted 2019-20 regular season. A career-long defensive specialist, Couturier’s ability to produce offensively has driven some of the best Philadelphia teams during his tenure in the City of Brotherly Love.
Couturier’s career high is 76 points, which he reached in both 2017-18 and 2018-19, the former of which saw the Flyers finish third place in the Metropolitan Division.
While it is yet to be determined how much more time Couturier will miss, if any, the Flyers have a busy stretch on tap with four games in six days starting on Saturday.
Under first-year head coach Rick Tocchet, Philadelphia is off to a a 6-3-1 start after holding on to defeat Nashville on Thursday night. The start is enough to have them in the mix in what looks to be a very competitive division race in the Metro this year. The Flyers are looking to make the postseason for the first time since the 2020 bubble playoffs.
