While one particular West Coast NHL team is interested in Mitch Marner, one NHL analyst is saying there's no way he's being offered the figure that has been included in recent rumors.
By all indications, the time for Mitch Marner with the Toronto Maple Leafs is nearing an end and he'll enter free agency on July 1.
And while there have already been a handful of teams linked to Marner including the Vegas Golden Knights, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and Carolina Hurricanes, there remains another team on the West Coast who could show interest.
But per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff, there's no way that Marner is being offered the kind of figures that have surfaced in recent rumors.
Per Seravalli, the Anaheim Ducks are interested in Marner but aren't offering him an AAV (average annual value) of $14 million on a new contract over 7 years.
Meanwhile, the Leafs haven't been completely shut out of Marner's future potential plans and there remains a chance he could still re-sign.
The Ducks, who recently acquired veteran forward Chris Kreider in a trade with the New York Rangers, are going to continue exploring every possible option to improve the team as evidenced by the comments made by GM Pat Verbeek following the deal.
Well, I'm going to keep going. I'm looking to improve the team in just about every area. Free agency's approaching, and there are other opportunities to make improvements through trades. So, as I've said many times, I'm going to explore all of them and see how it all shakes out.
Marner reached a new career-best 102 points (27G, 75A) this year with the Leafs, but came under fire for having a single assist in Toronto's final 4 games of the postseason against the divisional for Florida Panthers, coincidently another team he's been linked to.
