Golden Knights Acquire Ivan Barbashev From St. Louis
USA TODAY Sports

The Vegas Golden Knights made their best trade so far ahead of Friday's trade deadline.

Vegas has traded former first-round pick, forward Zach Dean, to the St. Louis Blues for forward Ivan Barbashev, the club announced Sunday.

Barbashev recorded 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in his 59 games with St. Louis this season.

This followed a career year for the veteran forward, who finished the 2021-22 campaign with 26 goals and 34 assists for 60 points.

Barbashev had spent six-plus seasons with the Blues, who selected him in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis against Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy's Boston Bruins in 2019.

Barbashev has never had an NHL season with fewer than 10 points.

Dean has yet to play professionally, having spent this season and the three seasons prior with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He has posted 49 points in 38 games with the club this season.

Dean was also a member of Team Canada in the U20 World Junior Championship, where he won gold in 2022 and 2023.
