The hockey world is mourning the loss of another young goaltender, 28-year-old Greek-born Dimitris Skotis.

Monday night, the hockey community fell silent as it was once hit by some very devastating news as 28-year old-goaltender Dimitris Skotis sadly passed away.

All hockey players and goaltenders share one dream, and that is to grow up to play professionally. Thankfully, Skotis managed to briefly achieve that dream as he played his first-ever semi pro-hockey season last year.

Skotis played in eight games in the Athens Ice Hockey League (AIHL) last year for multiple different teams, including the Athens Cyclopes, Titans and Minotaurs.

Here's the report from PuckEmpire on Instagram:

Skotis went 3-5-0 in his eight professional appearances in the AIHL, but despite the stats, Skotis showed some great skills and was starting to show some big potential.

Teammates and players in the Greek hockey community described Skotis as a well-liked goaltender who was respected by his teammates and peers.

At this time, it has not been revealed how the Skotis ended up passing away, but nonetheless it's always unfortunate to see it happen to someone at such a young age.

On behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers Insider, we send our thoughts and prayers to the Skotis family, and anyone else affected by this tragic news.

May you rest in peace Dimitris Skotis.
