The Carolina Hurricanes fell short of reaching the Stanley Cup Final once again this past season. Carolina fell to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, sending them to another big offseason.
The Hurricanes' front office has been active this summer already, trading for star defender K'Andre Miller from the New York Rangers. But it seems that the team may not be fully done adding to the roster.
Carolina has been heavily mentioned in the sweepstakes to land star Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets. Ehlers is the best remaining free agent on the board, and the Hurricanes are looking to make another splash.
NHL writer Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report is now predicting that the Hurricanes to land Ehlers. Carolina is reportedly trying to persuade Ehlers to join them over a few other teams.
"A smart skater with a high hockey IQ, who thrives while setting his teammates up in scoring position, he will be a remarkable mover of the puck for whichever team adds him to their roster....There has been considerable smoke around Carolina this off-season and at some point, the team is going to have to pull the proverbial trigger. This feels like their move and one that could pay dividends by the time the 2025-26 season kicks off," Beaston wrote.
Landing Ehlers could help improve the Hurricanes' offensive attack and give them more credibility next season. The veteran scored 24 goals and 39 assists for the Jets this past year, and could make a massive difference for this team.
It remains to be seen where Ehlers will end up, but Carolina could be a solid spot for the star.
