Insider Reveals Unexpected Change in Brock Boeser Trade Situation

TSN insider Darren Dreger is reporting that Brock Boeser ‘s name is out there on the trade market just days ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. While the Vancouver Canucks are known to be selling, it might come as a bit of a surprise to hear Boeser is potentially set to be moved, especially given his new seven-year contract extension.

However, it sounds like Boeser isn’t totally closed off to the idea of a trade.

“It’s interesting to me that Brock Boeser’s name is out there,” Dreger said on  Thursday’s Edition of Insider Trading. “I mean, this guy just signed a seven-year contract with the Canucks on July first. Now, is he willing to move? Well, he is, if there’s a fit that makes sense to Boeser and his family. He’s a playoff performer, so teams will express some interest.”

Despite Vancouver signing him to a fresh seven-year, $50.75 million extension (AAV $7.25M) back on July 1, 2025, Boeser is open to waiving his no-movement clause if there’s a location that works for him and a fit that makes sense for him and his family. There will be interest from teams, even though Boeser is having a bit of a down season. His reputation as a strong playoff performer and being locked into a reasonable contract are all pluses.

In 51 games this season, Boeser has just 12 goals and 14 assists. He’s on pace for a career-low 39 points.

Canucks Could Be Active Over the Next Few Days

Expect talk to surround the Canucks with trade chatter involving several players. Among them, the Canucks are waiting on Tyler Myers to waive his NMC (with Detroit as a believed target). Evander Kane (no NMC) is expected to move if a team is willing to give up an asset to acquire him as a rental.

As for Boeser, he never wanted to leave the Canucks. However, the way things are going, it appears he’s seen the writing on the wall and that he might have signed up long-term to be on a team that isn’t good for a long time.
