Kyle Connor's future in Winnipeg is up in the air, and heading into what may be his final season as a Jet, Frank Seravalli has linked him to his home town Red Wings.
The Winnipeg Jets had another stellar regular season in 2024/25, but at the end of it they failed to make a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run, an issue that has been plaguing this franchise for quite some time.
Then, the team saw franchise icon Nikolaj Ehlers depart in free agency, and with some key names potentially leaving in the near future, this team could look very different in the years to come.
One player in particular that applies too is Kyle Connor, a former first-round pick of the Jets who has played in almost 700 total games for the team since arriving in the 2016/17 season.
However, he enters the final year of his contract in 2025/26, earning just over $7 million a season over the past six seasons, but if the Jets can't find success, he may be set to follow Ehlers out the door.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, there's no guarantee that Connor leaves the Jets, but if he does, the Michigan native would be the perfect free agency pickup for the Detroit Red Wings.
In eight full seasons with the Jets, Connor has notched 31 or more goals in seven of those, and after a 41-goal campaign a season ago, the 28-year old is set to cash in during free agency next season.
Of course, Seravalli's comments don't mean that Connor is going to leave, but if the team can't find success around him, fans would understand if he departs, and with the Red Wings needing talent on the wing to lead them into the future, the dots are starting to connect for Connor.
