In June, the Minnesota Wild announced that its arena, Xcel Energy Center, would drop the name it has carried since the Minnesota Wild entered the NHL in 2000.

As of Sept. 3, the St. Paul arena is now officially known as Grand Casino Arena

The Xcel sign was removed from the 20,554-capacity home of the Wild on Wednesday ahead of the new sign being erected.

"Same home. A new era," smaller signs placed on the building read, in anticipation of the new signage's arrival.

The naming rights deal with Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley, owned by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, will run for 14 years, beginning today.

During a press conference, Chief Virgil Wind said that "beyond the business value" of the partnership, "this is a chance to tell our story. Inside the arena, visitors will learn about who we are, the non-removable Milles Lacs Band of Ojibwe."

While it may take some getting used to after 25 years of a single name, Grand Casino Arena is now the home of the Wild, Minnesota Frost, and big-name arena concerts.
