As the Vegas Golden Knights prepare for a new season filled with high expectations, the front office is also dealing with another matter. That would be the impending free agency of star Jack Eichel, who is entering the season on the final year of his current contract.

Eichel is coming off a special season for the Golden Knights, scoring 28 goals and 66 assists over 77 regular-season games played. The veteran helped Vegas be dominant last year, and he will be looking to make it happen again.

But Eichel knows that the contract situation is there, and he even addressed it recently.

"For me, it's business as usual," Eichel told NHL.com at the NHL/NHLPA North American Player Media Tour on Wednesday. "Things like that kind of take care of themselves when you're focused on the right things. I know that will sort itself out. Moreso, my mentality is we're starting training camp, we're starting the season and how do I be the best version of myself to help our team win, be a good teammate. We'll see what happens going forward."

It has seemed all along like the front office will get something done with Eichel, especially considering how important he is to the team. But when that happens or how much he will make, remains to be seen.

"It's no secret that I like it here in Vegas," Eichel said. "It's a great organization. I really enjoy living here and being a part of this community."

With the team adding star Mitch Marner to the mix this offseason, Vegas can move forward with this star duo for years to come. Vegas has its eye on another title, and Eichel will be a central point in trying to make that happen going forward.
