Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Jake McCabe and forward David Kampf will miss the team’s next two games due to injuries, head coach Craig Berube confirmed Monday via TSN’s Mark Masters.

McCabe and Kampf were both participants in Monday’s optional practice.

Both players both suffered injuries during Wednesday’s victory over the Florida Panthers. It was unclear when McCabe suffered the injury and he left the game with just over a minute remaining in the third period.

“He is still day to day right now. I don’t know if he will play in the next game or not. We’ll see how the next couple of days go with him,” Berube said of McCabe following Saturday’s 5-0 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Kampf was ruled out before the third period of Wednesday’s game.

Philippe Myers was placed in the lineup due to McCabe’s absence, on a third pairing with Simon Benoit.

Nick Robertson was reinserted into the lineup as a result of Kampf’s injuries and scored two goals, in one of his best performances of the season against the Blue Jackets on Saturday. Kampf has functioned primarily as Toronto’s fourth-line centre, where Pontus Holmberg took reps in his place.

Toronto embarks on a tough part of its schedule, squaring off against the Panthers tomorrow, followed by a contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday, before returning home to host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Prior to Monday’s games, the Maple Leafs hold a four-point lead over the Panthers and a six-point lead over the Lightning for the top spot in the Atlantic Division, with six games remaining.

Florida has five games remaining on its schedule.
