It’s that time of the year for The Win Column’s NHL Draft Rankings and Draft Profiles! Earlier this year, we released the TWC consolidated 2025 NHL Draft rankings. The 2025 NHL Draft will take place on June 27 and 28 in Los Angeles. Coming in at number 40 on our consolidated rankings is Jakob Ihs-Wozniak.
Ihs-Wozniak was born in Australia, so he’ll look to become only the second Australian player to play in the NHL. Ihs-Wozniak grew up and played junior hockey in Sweden, making him a rare Australian/Swedish nationality.

As is typical for Swedish players in their junior careers, Ihs-Wozniak bounced around a lot in the last three seasons. He has grown through the Lulea HF organization, playing at the J18 and J20 levels. Ihs-Wozniak has also represented Sweden in several tournaments each year, including the Under-18 World Junior Championship in the last two seasons.
Ihs-Wozniak improved his production in both the Sweden U18 and the WJC-18 year over year. He impressed in the J20 Nationell, with 23 goals and 57 points in 40 games, which prompted him to play 13 games with Lulea in the SHL. Ihs-Wozniak has signed with Lulea and will play in the SHL next season.
Ihs-Wozniak has one of the best pure shots in this draft class. His shot is powerful, and he can use it in a variety of ways, be it a one-timer or wrist shot. He can find those pockets on the ice and pounce on scoring opportunities when fed the puck by his linemates. While Ihs-Wozniak’s shot is his main strength, he’s also a very good playmaker with the puck on his stick.
There are benefits and downsides to being a complementary winger. One of those downsides is being reliant on other players. There are times when Ihs-Wozniak can appear invisible, as he is reliant on space to showcase his offensive punch.
At 6’2″, 190 lbs, Ihs-Wozniak is not the most physical player on the ice. The lack of physicality was prevalent in previous years, but Ihs-Wozniak has taken steps in this department this season. He also took some steps in the defensive end. Pace is something for Jakob to work on if he wants to take the next steps forward.
Ihs-Wozniak draws comparisons to a player like Brock Boeser, given his keen shot. Boeser isn’t a dynamic skater, physical player, or playmaker, but he can find those pockets to score as a complementary winger. He won’t ever be the most dynamic player on his line, but he can still be productive with those more dynamic players.
The Flames have a large number of wingers in their system. They don’t have a lot of right shots or pure scoring wingers through, so Ihs-Wozniak could intrigue them with the Florida Panthers’ first-round pick. While many project him to be a winger if he makes the NHL, he did play centre this season and won the majority of faceoffs he took. He’s not a pure centre, and skating isn’t his best trait, so the Flames might look at other players. The Flames do like to go to Sweden when they aren’t drafting from the CHL.
Jakob Ihs-Wozniak could hear his name called at the end of the first round, or sometime in the second round. With a great shot and ability to make plays with the puck on his stick, Ihs-Wozniak could factor well with linemates who can make plays and create space.
Risk: 2.5/5
Reward: 3.75/5
Projection: Middle-six complementary scoring winger
