Jaroslav Halák Announces Retirement

Jaroslav Halák began his career with the Montreal Canadiens after they drafted him in the ninth round in 2013. He also made stops with the St.Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and New York Rangers. He put a career record of 295-189-69 with a 2.50 GAA, .915SV%, and 53 shutouts. The Slovakian netminder won two Jennings Trophies in his career and was named to the All-Star Game in 2015. His best season came in the 2014-15 season, where he went 38-17-4 with a 2.43 GAA, .914SV%, and six shutouts.

Halák played in 39 Stanley Cup Playoff Games, putting up a record of 17-20 with a 2.48 GAA and .919SV%. He will surely be remembered for his performance during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Habs upset the Capitals in the opening round, which included a 53-save performance in Game 6. Halák would finish the 2010 playoffs with a 9-9 record with a 2.55 GAA and .923SV%.

International Career

Early in his career, he would represent Slovakia at the U18 and U20 World Championships, with his best numbers coming in 2002. Halák went 5-2 with a 2.00 and .932SV% in seven appearances. He would be named the Tournaments Best Goaltender and took home a silver Medal.

He also played in the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games. Halák posted a 3-5 record with a 2.91 GAA and .898SV% in nine career Olympic Games.
