Per a report from NHL analyst Jeff Marek, the Dallas Stars had interest in Mathieu Olivier before he re-signed in Columbus, and could target Noel Acciari in Pittsburgh.

The Dallas Stars wanted to add some toughness to their lineup for next year and reportedly targeted Mathieu Olivier of the Columbus Blue Jackets before he decided to re-sign with the club.

Now, the Stars could potentially show interest in pending UFA Noel Acciari of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who has only a year left on his deal with an affordable AAV (average annual value) of $2 million.

Why Dallas Is Still Hunting for a Physical Winger

Marek recently said that Mathieu Olivier was a target for the Stars before he decided to rejoin the Blue Jackets with a new contract.

Before Mathieu Olivier resigned with the Blue Jackets, I'm firmly of the belief that was a target for the Stars, they wanted him or someone like him, I don't think that search is over.

Right now, the Stars have limited salary cap space with less than $500K to utilize toward bringing in new players.

They've also been linked to players like Kiefer Sherwood (record 462 hits, 40 points) and Brandon Duhaime (21 points, 165 hits), who could add considerable strength to their bottom 6.

Another option is Klim Kostin, who remains unsigned.

The Stars have been eliminated in the WCF in each of the last 2 years by the Edmonton Oilers, and when push comes to shove, there's nothing more they'd like than to get over that hump and advance to the SCF for the 1st time since 2020.
