The Los Angeles Kings recalled forward Jared Wright from their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign.
The move brings Los Angeles back to a full 23-man active roster, according to PuckPedia’s tracking. The Kings had reassigned Wright back to the AHL on Oct. 17, in a move that landed Taylor Ward on the NHL roster. Wright has now returned to the NHL.
Wright, 23, figures to be one of the Kings’ most well-traveled players this season. He’s already been shuffled between the NHL and AHL on multiple occasions this season, and that appears likely to continue as he is clearly a preferred call-up option for the club.
The former Denver Pioneer is in his second full season of professional hockey, having signed out of college late in the 2024-25 campaign. Wright had a strong debut season at the pro level last year, scoring 17 goals and 30 points in 54 AHL games. Those AHL performances helped earn Wright 23 NHL games, where he scored four points and logged 11:26 time on ice per game.
So far this season, Wright has largely played at the AHL level. He’s got five games played at that level, and has scored three points. His lone NHL game came on Oct. 10, in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Wright received 10:24 time on ice that game.
Although Los Angeles recently got a forward back from IR when veteran Mats Zuccarello was activated, they still have a few forwards sidelined by injury. Alex Turcotte landed on IR on Oct. 10 with an undisclosed injury, while star Kevin Fiala hasn’t played since he suffered a leg injury at the Winter Olympics in February. On Oct. 17, it was reported that Fiala could rejoin his teammates on the ice in approximately three weeks.
The Kings were hit with an additional injury on Tuesday, as center Quinton Byfield left the team’s victory over the Washington Capitals with an upper-body injury. He’s considered day-to-day.
While Wright is surely no direct replacement for Byfield, his recall does provide head coach Peter Laviolette with an additional forward option at his disposal as he constructs the Kings’ lineup.
During Wright’s lone NHL game this season, he skated on Los Angeles’ third line alongside veterans Scott Laughton and Joel Armia. That sort of bottom-six deployment is what should be expected for Wright in the immediate future.
