The LA Kings clinched another playoff matchup with the Edmonton Oilers, but another storyline should be celebrated.

Kings legend, Alec Martinez, has decided to call it a career and played his last game in the NHL last night.

Former LA Kings Legend Alec Martinez Retires From NHL

Martinez was drafted by the Kings 95th overall in 2007, after playing college hockey at Miami University in Ohio.

He was a part of the Kings’ two Stanley Cup seasons in 2012 and 2014, and he scored two series-winners in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the infamous Cup-clinching goal in Game 5 against the New York Rangers in double overtime, cementing his legacy in Los Angeles.

Martinez was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020, where he went on to win a third Stanley Cup in 2023.

Martinez signed a 1-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks this past season, and he played his last game last night in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He recorded two shots on goal.

Over his career, the defenseman played 862 games and recorded 289 points and a plus/minus rating of +73.

An LA Kings legend forever.
