We have a major development regarding star forward Nikolaj Ehlers and the Montreal Canadiens, coming from journalist Frank Seravalli.
We recently reported the following:
Knowing, of course, that Laine and Ehlers are very good friends, things have just taken a very interesting turn.
This is one of the biggest pieces of news in quite some time. Remember this name, and don't be surprised if he becomes a Montreal Canadien on July 1st.
Ehlers will indeed be a free agent (UFA) next summer and will be able to sign with the team of his choice.
Patrik Laine spoke about his former Winnipeg Jets teammate and friend, Nikolaj Ehlers (currently sidelined due to injury):'I brought him a signed (Canadiens) jersey to cheer him up a little.
No, he asked me for it, I didn't just bring it.'
- Laine on his good buddy Ehlers
And here's what Marco Normandin reported about the comments from the reputable Frank Seravalli:
"We can add Ehlers' name as a potential candidate to join the Montreal Canadiens. The Jets forward, who is currently in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent, reportedly has his eyes on the city of Montreal as his next destination. (according to Frank Seravalli)"

In my opinion, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton must absolutely do everything they can to make this happen, and they need to sign Ehlers next summer.
The 28-year-old Danish forward was a 9th overall pick by the Winnipeg Jets in 2014 (1st round) and has 25 points in 24 games this season.
He is truly excellent.
Ehlers is currently earning $6 million per year, and his contract does indeed end in the summer of 2025.
A big storyline to watch!
