Lane Hutson: more important agents are now working on his case

Officially, Lane Hutson’s agent is Sean Coffey, who is recognized in the industry as an emerging agent. He’s working with Hutson on behalf of Quartexx, which is Kent Hughes’ old company. Yes, another Habs player who’s with Quartexx. But what you need to know right now is that negotiations between the Habs and Hutson’s clan are so difficult that bigger agents are on the case. According to Darren Dreger, who spoke to TSN 690 this morning, Ryan Barnes has taken the matter into his own hands. Darren Ferris, a big name in the business, is said to be overseeing the whole thing. According to TVA Sports, Barnes is the agency’s director of operations in the U.S. The goal? Agree on an amount, but also find a way to settle the “philosophical differences” that mean the contract has yet to be signed.

It’s important to remember, though, that Hutson’s clan doesn’t have a huge amount of leverage in negotiations, as he’s quite far from complete autonomy.

Everyone has an opinion on the matter, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that the file is becoming a distraction. That’s the $72 million question, and it’s worth remembering that the Canadiens’ GM and the (new) team representing the player could meet tomorrow in Detroit, on the heels of the Habs’ visit to Michigan.

Will this change things in an increasingly complex matter?

’Overtime’

– Not crazy.

– Indeed.

– Hey boy.
