Lindy Ruff reveals simple message to Sabres: ‘JFG’

The Buffalo Sabres got the job done on Saturday night, forcing a Game 7 in their Stanley Cup Playoffs series with the Montreal Canadiens. Buffalo unleashed the offense, posting eight goals in a 8-3 victory. Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff revealed what his message had been to the team as it faced elimination.

“Lindy Ruff said the Sabres mantra has been “JFG” because the team has been far too tentative,” reporter Matthew Bove posted to X, formerly Twitter. “For those wondering, “JFG” means “just f**king go.”

The Sabres certainly listened to their coach on Saturday. Buffalo scored seven consecutive goals to stun Montreal.

“I’m very proud of our guys,” Ruff said, per NHL.com. “We talked this morning about everybody needs to play their best game. That the regular season doesn’t mean anything, and the Boston series doesn’t mean anything, and the five games to this point really don’t mean anything. Our defining moment is this game tonight, and we have to play our best game.”

Rasmus Dahlin was unstoppable for the Sabres. He finished Game 6 with five points, including four assists.

“I think we simplify our game on the road,” Dahlin said. “We are playing more aggressive, stuff that you should be doing at home also, but I like our road game.”

Dahlin is the first defenseman in NHL history to have five points in an elimination game, NHL.com reported. In this year’s playoffs, he now has 13 points.

Dahlin revealed his team’s strategy heading into Game 6.

“We were keeping it simple, honestly,” Dahlin said. “Quick puck movement and we had a shooting mentality today and we got pucks back. So it was overall a good power play game.”

Game 7 of the series is on Monday in Buffalo.
