Look Out: Jarome Iginla's Son Tij Is Knocking on the NHL's Door

The 19-year-old forward hasn’t been slowed after last season was cut short due to double hip surgery. Actually, he’s been flying across the ice in his two preseason appearances.

His offensive instincts stand out. Though he is yet to record a point, Iginla plays with assertiveness and is creating a slew of chances for Mammoth teammates.

It won’t be long before he lights the lamp regularly. His release is excellent. The puck goes from stick to the back of the net in an instant.

Iginla scored 76 goals in 150 combined regular season and postseason WHL games. His goal-getting, habit of winning 50-50 puck battles and ability to protect the puck should translate nicely to the NHL.

He knows how to position his body and keep opponents off-balance with quick, agile turns. Combining that with his elite-level hands, outstanding vision, growing strength and aforementioned rapid shot – he possesses the kind of offensive package that creates fear in defenders.

Despite his lack of NHL experience, Iginla is proving that he has the quality to push hard for a place on Utah’s opening night roster.

The Mammoth open the regular season on the road in Colorado on Oct. 9, where Jarome skated for three seasons. Utah will host the Calgary Flames for their Oct. 15 home opener, which will take on extra meaning, given Jarome’s collection of franchise records.

If Tij can adapt quickly to the NHL and get off to a solid start, it won’t be long before he escapes his father’s shadow and his game speaks for itself.
