According to a team announcement, the Los Angeles Kings have recalled forward Jared Wright from the AHL’s Ontario Reign. Unfortunately, Wright’s recall comes with some bad news.
Earlier today, the Kings’ manager of editorial content, Zach Dooley, reported that veteran forward Mats Zuccarello isn’t expected to travel with the Kings to Las Vegas. Zuccarello has already been ruled out of tomorrow’s contest against the Vegas Golden Knights due to an undisclosed injury.
For what it’s worth, Zuccarello was recovering from a minor shoulder injury during training camp, so his absence on Saturday could be related. The 17-year veteran signed a one-year deal with the Kings this past offseason and has recorded one assist through Los Angeles’ first three games.
Serving as an injury replacement is familiar territory for Wright. The 23-year-old winger was a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and is in his second full season playing for the Kings organization.
Last season, Wright was recalled multiple times to serve as a depth forward. Still, he fell two games short of registering his rookie season in the NHL. Wright finished the 2025-26 season with four assists in 23 games while averaging 11:26 of action. He also blocked 18 shots and delivered 27 hits throughout that stretch.
He understandably performed much better offensively with AHL Ontario. He didn’t finish toward the top of the team in scoring, but Wright still finished with a respectable 17 goals and 30 points in 54 games. Through the Reign’s first two games of the 2026-27 campaign, Wright has registered two goals and three points with a +1 rating.
