Macklin Celebrini's Brother Refuses to Sign With Vancouver Canucks: Will Become Free Agent

Macklin Celebrini's brother has been with the Canucks organization since being drafted in 2023, but now he's set to become a free agent.

While all eyes are on Macklin Celebrini after an incredible rookie year as the No. 1 overall pick, many forget that he has a brother that was drafted back in 2023, with the Canucks using the No. 171 pick on his older brother Aiden.

In two years at Boston University, Celebrini has struggled to make much of an impact, tallying just 14 points over 67 games in that time, but with solid size at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, he's certainly got some potential.

Many expected him to sign with the Canucks after his second season with BU, but now, it's been confirmed that the 20-year old is indeed heading back to college next season, meaning he will become a free agent.

This likely doesn't come as a surprise to the Canucks, as Celebrini's best chance of development remains with BU given the lack of explosive production they were hoping to see from him, and given that his brother is now the star in San Jose, it's a possibility that he looks to team up with him at some point.

To get there though, teams will need to see much more from Aiden, who has shown immense ability in his young career, but with a lack of production behind it on a loaded BU squad, there's still plenty more steps he needs to take before even making it to the AHL level.

Given his last name, Celebrini may still be given a shot to make it at the professional level, but for now, college is the best route for him, and with the chance to become a free agent after his next season at BU, there's still hope if he can put together a good season and gain interest from other NHL teams.
