Prior to their game this afternoon against Philadelphia, the Mammoth announced (Twitter link) a trio of injury updates.  As expected, winger Michael Carcone was activated off injured reserve.  In a corresponding move, defenseman John Marino was placed on IR retroactive to October 17th.  Meanwhile, winger Kailer Yamamoto is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Carcone’s activation was expected with the team assigning Daniil But back to AHL Tucson on Saturday.  The 30-year-old wound up missing a little more than three weeks due to an upper-body injury.  Before being sidelined, Carcone was off to an okay start to his season, picking up a goal and an assist in his first five games.  Despite seeing limited minutes, he had a 17-goal performance last season and a 21-goal effort back in 2023-24 in under 12 minutes per game on average.

As for Marino, his placement should come as no surprise.  Two weeks ago when he was injured, he was listed as out on a week-to-week basis, meaning he wasn’t particularly close to returning.  Marino had been off to an impressive start before sustaining his upper-body injury, notching five points in nine games in a little over 20 minutes per night of playing time.  His placement was used to create the roster opening to recall Ben McCartney earlier in the day.  With the backdated placement, he’s eligible to be activated at any time.

Yamamoto hasn’t played regularly this season, having been a scratch five times already.  However, he has been quite productive when he has suited up.  The 28-year-old has four goals and three assists in just nine appearances thus far, while his playing time is up by nearly three minutes per game.  A capable secondary producer for the Mammoth, it at least doesn’t look like he’ll be out for too long.
