Mammoth Sign Seven To Amateur Tryout Agreements

Rookie camp is around the corner now that the calendar has turned to September. According to Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports, the Utah Mammoth are bringing seven players to rookie camp on amateur tryout agreements.

The group is highlighted by forward Quinn Kennedy. The undrafted 20-year-old has spent the last year and a half with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads after beginning his career with the Rimouski Océanic. He leaves plenty to be desired on defense, but Kennedy is coming off his best offensive campaign. In 61 games for the Mooseheads last season, Kennedy scored 31 goals and 56 points with a -28 rating.

Meanwhile, center Andrei Molgachyov is far off from Kennedy’s offensive value. Molgachyov, 18, spent last year with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. He had a productive rookie campaign, finishing with 29 goals and 59 points in 61 games with a -7 rating. A product of the Little Caesars travel hockey program in Detroit, Molgachyov has already committed to the University of Connecticut for college.

Outside of those two, the Mammoth have also brought in forwards Aiden O’Donnell, Riley Thorpe, Reid Valade, defenseman Grayden Strohack, and goaltender Nick Cirka. Each player should benefit from the elevated platform of rookie camp, and allow the Mammoth an up-close evaluation. It’s rare for ATOs to convert to standard contracts, though some of this group could sign AHL or ECHL deals.
