With the NHL draft coming shortly and taking place on Friday, and the start of free agency set for July 1, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving talked to media members to address the latest regarding the franchise's pending free agents.
Although star forwards Mitch Marner and John Tavares have grabbed most, if not all, headlines, the Maple Leafs are once again approaching a familiar crossroads with fellow forward Nick Robertson.
One year after requesting a trade, signing a one-year, $875,000 deal, and finishing another up-and-down season, the 23-year-old winger is set to hit restricted free agency—this time with arbitration rights in hand.

Treliving’s comments reflected an open-ended stance on Robertson, who appeared in 69 games during the 2024–25 regular season (scoring 22 points) and in just three (scoring two points) in the playoffs under head coach Craig Berube.
"I think Nick's a good player," Treliving said. "Again, we’re June (26), so the puzzle’s gotta come into place, but I think Nick’s a good player. He’s still a young player, he’s still an evolving player, but he’s got a skill set — he shoots it in the net. That’s a good skill set to have.
"We’ll see how it all plays out, but we're in the early days here. Nick's a great kid, and like I said, possesses a real good skill set."
Robertson’s ice time remained limited to just 12 minutes per game under Berube, with his production a tad streaky for the most part and a slow start to the season in which he scored two points in the first 26 games played by the Maple Leafs.
Letting Robertson walk without a qualifying offer risks losing a young scorer for nothing, but keeping him, only to repeat last season’s limited usage, may not benefit either side.
