The NHL Draft has been chaotic thus far on day two, and now two original six teams have completed a trade with rivals Montreal and Boston doing business as the Canadiens move up for the second time on day two.
Round three of the 2025 NHL Draft has been just as wild as round two, and early on, the Montreal Canadiens seemingly saw a prospect that they believed was worth trading up for.
As a result, they completed a trade with their fierce rival the Boston Bruins, giving them pick No. 79 and 108 in exchange for pick No. 69 as they look to add more elite talent to a prospect pool that's already one of the most loaded in the National Hockey League.
This was Montreal's second pick in the draft after trading No. 16 and 17 to the Islanders in exchange for Noah Dobson before trading up to select Alexander Zharovsky out of Russia in the second round.
With the No. 69 overall pick, Montreal have selected centre Hayden Paupenskis out of the WHL and the Kelowna Rockets, with the 6-foot-5, 202 pounder presents a big bodied centre that could potentially be a big piece of their future.
He may not be one of the biggest names in the draft, but Paupenskis has great skill at his size, and if the team can develop him in this loaded prospect pool, optimism is high.
This was just yet another trade on day two of the NHL Draft that has been absolute chaos for trades thus far, and with teams willing to give up assets to land the pieces they have their eyes on, don't be surprised if we see many more before the end of the day.
