Leon Draisaitl stepped up once again for the Edmonton Oilers, scoring both goals in a 2-1 overtime victory against the New York Islanders.

The performance not only snapped Edmonton’s two-game losing streak but also brought Draisaitl to the 100-point mark for the season, the second player to get there after Colorado Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon.

Draisaitl opened the scoring in the second period with his 48th goal of the season, extending his point streak to 17 games.

He struck again in overtime, finishing a play set up by Connor McDavid and goaltender Calvin Pickard to secure the win.

“It’s a nice individual milestone,” Draisaitl said. “But the two points are much better than any other personal records.”

The Oilers controlled the extra frame from start to finish, keeping the Islanders pinned in their own zone before Draisaitl broke through with his 49th goal of the campaign.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch praised Draisaitl’s ability to take over games, calling him a "dominant" player since the start of the season.

“I’ve seen Leon take control of his game,” Knoblauch said after the game. “He’s always been a good player. He’s always been dominant—one of the best forwards every single night. That’s a star player.”

With 14 goals and 26 points over his last 17 games, Draisaitl (49 goals, 51 assists) has been Edmonton’s most consistent producer this year, clearly ahead of superstar teammate Connor McDavid, who has "only" 85 points.

Draisaitl now sits just one goal away from his fourth 50-goal season, with the Rocket Richard Trophy in sight as he leads the goals leaderboard with a 13-goal advantage over second-place William Nylander.

The Oilers, meanwhile, will look to build off the momentum from this victory as they continue their playoff push, now boasting a 38-24-4 record and 80 points through 66 games.
