A New Jersey Devils defenseman has received supplementary disciplinary action from the NHL for an embellishment call that took place when the Devils faced the New York Rangers on Dec. 23.
The NHL has announced that New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton was fined $2,000 in supplementary discipline for diving/embellishment.
It was confirmed that Hamilton was warned after an incident occurred during the Devils game against the Edmonton Oilers back in Nov. 4, and was flagged by the NHL hockey operations.
However, his second citation was against the New York Rangers and ultimately earned himself a fine of $2,000 for an incident that occurred at 9:12 of the second period on Dec. 23, right before the holiday break.
Rangers rookie forward Brett Berard and Hamilton received minor penalties on the play. Video of the incident below.
The NHL's hockey operations department monitors all games and flags any incidents of diving or embellishment deserving of further discipline under Rule 64.
The money from these type of fines go towards the players' emergency assistance fund.
