NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes and Connor Ingram

The Minnesota Wild aren’t talking about a trade involving Quinn Hughes with anyone

Michael Russo of The Athletic: League sources have said that the Minnesota Wild have not talked to the New Jersey Devils or any other team about defenseman Quinn Hughes. One source said that the rumors were “bulls---” and “made up.”

The Wild continue contract extension talks with Hughes’ agent Pat Brisson about term, money and the contract structure. There is no internal urgency to get a deal done, but fan anxiety grows the longer he remains not extended. The Wild would like to get a deal done to eliminate any distraction during the season.

The market has shifted up, especially of late. There are now three players making over $17 million, and the Wild already have one of them in Kirill Kaprizov. Kaprizov makes 16.3% of the salary cap this season, the first year of his deal. Hughes at 16.3% would be about $18.5 million. Will he want $19 or $20 million?

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar is also extension eligible. Is one waiting for the other to sign first? Whoever signs first will be resetting the defenseman market.

Where could goaltender Connor Ingram end up?

Kyle Morton of Daily Faceoff: The Edmonton Oilers let Connor Ingram hit free agency, and decided to add Devon Levi and Frederik Andersen. It’s the end of August and Ingram is still looking for a home for next season after posting 16 wins, two shutouts, and a .899 save percentage in 32 appearances last season.

Tyler Yaremchuk asks Carter Hutton where he thinks Ingram could land.

“For me, I like Pittsburgh… You still have two young guys that are your guys in Silovs and Murashov. I think in the factor of you can give him a decent number, and it can be a low-ticket deal.
