Welcome to NHL Rumours! The NHL has released the schedules for the 2025-26 season, indicating we are getting closer and closer to a new season. Today’s rumour looks at the St. Louis Blues, who have been busy constructing their roster this summer, but still may not be done.

Doug Armstrong Still Seeking Roster Shakeup

Rumour: Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports that Blues general manager Doug Armstrong is still interested in changing over some of the roster. Jordan Kyrou‘s name has once again emerged as a possible trade candidate. Kypreos notes that trading Kyrou would be difficult. Furthermore, he states that Armstrong would only do it if the Blues get a big return.

Analysis: It appears there are three guarantees in life: death, taxes, and Kyrou trade rumours. There were rumours the Blues may trade him at the trade deadline last season. There were rumours the Montreal Canadiens were interested earlier in the summer. However, when July 1st came, a no-trade clause activated in Kyrou’s contract, making a trade difficult seemingly unlikely. Alas, here we are again.

Do Not Overthink This Rumour

Kyrou is a 30+ goal scorer and a former All-Star. In addition, he is under an incredibly team-friendly contract, even with a no-trade clause. It makes sense that teams would be interested in bringing in the forward. As a result, it makes sense they would reach out to the Blues.

If Armstrong did not answer the phone, he would not be doing his job as general manager. Armstrong may have no interest in trading Kyrou, but will listen to offers in case a big return is offered. If a big offer arises, Armstrong may pull the trigger. If not, than Armstrong and the Blues may have to “settle” for an elite scorer. What a bummer, right?

Roster Shakeup

If Armstrong is curious shaking up the roster some more, there are other ways to do it. Justin Faulk‘s name has emerged in rumours this summer. Oskar Sundqvist is another player who could be moved.

If Armstrong is looking for a big move, he may revisit a Brayden Schenn trade. Schenn had interested suitors at last year’s deadline and likely would have some suitors again.

Will a Big Trade Happen?

Armstrong does not make trades without reason. There is a purpose, whether it be in the short term or the long term. Even the Zachary Bolduc trade, one that puzzled Blues fans at first, makes more sense when we consider the surplus of forwards and the needs of another right-handed defenceman.

While rumours may be floating around, a trade will not happen unless Armstrong gets the return he is looking for. These rumours may continue to pop up, but until the evidence says otherwise, know it will only happen under extremely specific circumstances.
