NHL Saturday props: Straight bets rule the day

More and more, shot props are growing to unplayable odds as an individual bet. While 2-leg parlays can be reasonable, it's far better to solo your wagers and know that the success of it isn't hinged to anything else.

With 13 games on the schedule, it offers us a fun opportunity to sift through the juice and find bets playable alone. Here are a few that stick out (and one parlay we can't resist).

Kevin Hayes over 2.5 SOG (-110 DK)

Ottawa has been quite the generous team to shots when on the road, allowing 40.2 per game (and 4.0 goals per game). The Senators are also allowing the fifth-most shots per game to centers, so my eye goes to Kevin Hayes, who centers the Flyers top line.

Hayes has an extremely solid floor of two shots, a number he's reached in seven straight games. I'd say that's a great parlay leg (-350 on FD), if you prefer. I like him to get over the hump to 3+ simply because of the success he's having against Ottawa.

He had four SOG against them last week, marking the sixth straight game he's finished with over 2.5 SOG against the Senators.

Reasonable shot odds are getting hard to come by, and I'm happy to load up Hayes here at -110. The center also scored against the Senators last week, so we'll add his goal to our day.

.5u: Hayes goal (+285 CZR)

.5u: Claude Giroux goal (+215 CZR)

This is going to be a popular play today and I certainly want to join the ride. Claude Giroux is making his return to Philadelphia today, a place he called home for 15 seasons.

He faced his former team last week in Ottawa and scored, and he has five goals over his last five games. In front of his old fans, you have to love Giroux to deliver a goal here.

SGP Shot parlay from Edmonton-Florida (+400 CZR)

  • Matthew Tkachuk over 3.5 SOG
  • Sam Reinhart over 2.5 SOG
  • Sam Bennett over 2.5 SOG

This is our one exception to the headline that brought you here. Besides Sam Reinhart (-110), the others here have odds at -130 or worse, which puts them in parlay territory. Instead of mixing and matching different combinations, the best course of action I see is to throw them all in a parlay.

This option is available on Caesars, Bet365 and Fliff. If you don't have any of those books, I'd recommend considering Tkachuk 5+ shots (+146 FD) and Reinhart straight.

Florida is averaging 40+ shots per game at home as a team, and as you might expect, all the names above have hit their shots prop at home in virtually every game.

Edmonton is allowing 36 shots per game on the road and the most power play opportunities per game. The Panthers should be able to get their usual volume off this afternoon.

I've placed a full unit on this trio.

I do want a goal-scorer in this game, and will opt for Matthew Tkachuk fresh off a suspension. He leads the Panthers in shot attempts and shots on the power play, and should pick up right where he left off. Reinhart and Bennett are fine options as well.

.5u: Tkachuk goal (+150 CZR)

Mika Zibanejad over 3.5 SOG (+105 DK)

It's always a good idea to consider some power-play shooters when they get the pleasure of facing Nashville. The Preds are allowing the 14th-most power play opportunities per game this year at 3.57, which is good enough for me to deem them a target for PP shooters.

There's no better power-play shooter right now than Mika Zibanejad, who has tallied a league-high 28 shots on the man-up advantage.

Zibanejad is over 3.5 shots in four straight road games and had five SOG in both games against Nashville last year. Love the spot and the odds, we'll add a goal bet for him as well.

.5u: Zibanejad goal (+160 CZR)

Trevor Zegras over 2.5 SOG (-110 DK)

I absolutely love this spot for Trevor Zegras. He'll be facing a Blackhawks team allowing 35.8 shots per game on the road, and Chicago is handing out the third-most power-play opportunities per game. They also allow the seventh-most shots to the center position.

Zegras, the Ducks young center, is second on the team in PP shots and is fresh off a six-goal game. He's over 2.5 SOG in three of his last four at home, and went over 2.5 shots in all three meetings with Chicago last year.

.5u: Zegras goal (+190 CZR)

Jonathan Toews over 2.5 SOG (+125 DK)

We stick in this game and grab ourselves some phenomenal odds on Jonathan Toews to exceed three shots. First of all, it's the Ducks, the best team to target for shots in the NHL.

Anaheim is allowing the most shots per game to centers and the fifth-most power play opportunities.

Toews leads Chicago in PP shots and has come alive the past two games, putting up 11 shot attempts and eight SOG. He averaged 3.3 SOG/game in three games against the Ducks last year. No team allows more goals per game than Anaheim, and Toews has netted one in 50% of his games this season.

.5u: Toews goal (+240 CZR)
