Connor McDavid's future has been the talk of the NHL as of late, but according to GM Stan Bowman, things will get done with a little patience.

Over the past few weeks, the back-and-forth involving Connor McDavid and his future has been hard to keep up with, but all the while, the star captain has maintained his intentions to win in Edmonton.

Still, some reporters believe that he'll go into the 2025/26 regular season without a new contract, while others maintain that he's going to sign an extension in Edmonton rather soon.

Stan Bowman addresses McDavid saga

The one person we've not heard from yet is General Manager Stan Bowman, and in a recent interview with The Athletic, he opened up on why the process to deal with McDavid is so different, and why they're not panicking over an extension yet.

You have to approach Connor differently than anyone else because he is different than anyone else. He's the best player in the world and, as a result, has earned the right to handle this the way he feels right to handle it.

I think we can just support him in that process. I have no reason to doubt anything he said (last week). I take him to his word that he's focused on winning the Cup in Edmonton. And we feel the same way. It's just really trying to maintain patience. That's the hard thing for the outside world to do. But for us, that's fine. He's always been a man of his word to me. I trust him. He's going through his own process, and when he's ready, he's ready.

It sure sounds like Bowman is ready to give McDavid the time and space that's needed to make a decision on his own, and when he's ready, the two parties appear to believe it will be a quick negotiation.

For now though, no deal has been made, and every day the regular season draws nearer, the more Oilers fans may begin to worry about the future of their superstar captain.
