Oilers’ Zach Hyman leaves Game 4 with injury

Hyman left the game midway through the first period after taking a hit from Stars winger Mason Marchment. Hyman was skating through the neutral zone when Marchment hit him from the side, with the impact making awkward contact with his arm.

Hyman skated off after the hit appearing to be in discomfort, immediately going to the dressing room. It was then confirmed before the second period that he would miss the rest of the game.

Hyman leaves the game with a shot on goal and two hits in 3:11 of ice time, with the game still tied 0-0 at the time of his departure.

Hyman has performed as expected so far this postseason with 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points in 14 games through the first three rounds. He’s also been extremely physical throughout these playoffs, with a league-leading 109 hits.

This performance comes after a down year for Hyman in the regular season, which saw him get just 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points in 73 games, after having more goals in 2023-24 and more assists in 2022-23 than his goals and assist total combined this year.

With Hyman out, the Oilers have rotated Corey Perry, Trent Frederic and Evander Kane in his spot on the right wing of Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. In addition to that, Perry has taken his spot on the top power play unit, while Mattias Janmark and Leon Draisaitl have replaced him on the second penalty kill unit.

Should Hyman miss any further games with the injury, the Oilers have several options in the press box to replace him in James Hamblin, Max Jones, Noah Philp, Derek Ryan, Matt Savoie and Jeff Skinner.

Hyman’s injury adds to a slowly growing list after Connor Brown sustained an injury during Game 3 and missed Game 4. Along with that, they still have yet to see Mattias Ekholm play in the playoffs.
