The Ontario Reign said goodbye to their captain for the past two seasons as TJ Tynan signed with the Colorado Avalanche on Monday afternoon.

Tynan signed a one-year deal with the Avalanche, ending his three-year stay in Ontario. The 32-year-old forward joined the Reign in the 2021 offseason after two successful campaigns with the Colorado Eagles (AHL), which saw him win the AHL MVP award in 2021.
During his three-year stay with the Reign, Tynan led the team in scoring, finished top five in scoring throughout the league, and led the league in assists every year. His 98-point campaign, which saw him record 84 assists, six away from setting an AHL season record, saw him take home the AHL MVP award for a second straight season. He is still the only Reign player to win this award since the team’s inaugural AHL season (2105-2016).
Losing Tynan will be a big blow to the Reign offense and power play, and replacing his offense isn’t an easy task. However, the LA Kings organization might have found his replacement. Yesterday afternoon, the Kings announced they signed five players to NHL contracts, all of which are depth signings that should start the year with the Reign.
The @LAKings have signed five players to NHL contracts, including:
– Jeff Malott (F), two-year contract worth an AAV of $775,000
– Tyler Madden (F), one-year, two-way contract worth an AAV of $775,000
– Jack Studnicka (F) one-year, two-way contract worth an AAV of $775,000

One of those signings was forward Glenn Gawdin, who played last season with the San Diego Gulls. Gawdin finished second on the team in goals (22), points (55), power-play goals (7), power-play assists (15), and fourth in assists (33) in 70 games. Gawdin must clear waivers to start the year in Ontario, which I expect him to pass. We’ll see how the roster shapes out the rest of the offseason.
Good luck in Colorado, Tynan!
