Panthers Legend Aaron Ekblad Sends Heartfelt Message to Fans After Revealing His Next Move

Aaron Ekblad is a free agent this summer, but after spending his entire career with the Florida Panthers, he's made it clear that he doesn't want to leave.

The Florida Panthers are completely focused on Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday night, but in the off-season, the front office has some major decisions to make about key members of this squad.

One underrated name that finds himself as a free agent this summer is former No. 1 overall pick Aaron Ekblad, who has seen it all during his 11 years with the Panthers, from the very worst to their first ever Stanley Cup victory 12 months ago.

On the eve of Game 1, Ekblad was asked about his pending free agency, and his response should tell you everything you need to know about how much he loves being a Florida Panther:

'I live and breathe for the Florida Panthers. I bleed for the Florida Panthers. I've given my body and everything to this team. I want to keep doing it forever, for as long as they'll let me keep coming to the rink.'

Unfortunately for Ekblad, it's not entirely up to him whether or not the Panthers retain him, as they may want to spend more money on their forward depth with both Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand free agents as well, but if the money is there, this move would make sense for both sides.

Ultimately though, there is expected to be plenty of interest in Ekblad on the open market this summer, as he presents as one of the top RHD available, but if the Panthers have the money for him, don't be surprised if he takes a team friendly deal to remain with the only NHL team he's ever known.
