Penalties: Malkin Gets Jabbed from Bruins Bench, Swings Stick at Zadorov

BOSTON — The penalties at the end of the first period between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins will probably cost at least one player a few dollars after the NHL Department of Player Safety gets a good look.

At 19:38 of the first period, referees nabbed Penguins center Evgeni Malkin for swinging his stick at the Boston bench. However, an official review added a pair of Boston penalties to give the Penguins a power play but also showed why Malkin flung his blade in that direction.

Close replays not originally shown on the TNT broadcast also showed Nikita Zadorov jabbing Malkin from the bench. That’s a big no-no and will probably earn Zadorov a fine from DoPS. Boston forward Tyler Johnson was also given a tripping penalty after a lengthy review.

Malkin might also get a little wallet reduction for the stick swing.
