Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury on Tuesday.
Karlsson will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the team announced.
A three-time Norris Trophy recipient as the NHL's top defenseman, Karlsson logged 23 minutes and 12 seconds of ice time during Sunday's 1-0 setback to the Boston Bruins.
Karlsson, 35, has recorded 33 points (four goals, 29 assists) and a minus-1 rating in 44 games this season.
He has totaled 903 points (204 goals, 699 assists) in 1,128 career games with the Ottawa Senators (2009-18), San Jose Sharks (2018-23) and Penguins.
Also on Tuesday, the Penguins recalled forward Tristan Broz and defenseman Ryan Graves from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Forward Rafael Harvey-Pinard was re-assigned to the AHL affiliate.
