Penguins re-sign defenseman Jack St. Ivany to three-year contract
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas announced Tuesday that the club has re-signed defenseman Jack St. Ivany to a three-year, two-way contract.

The contract has an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level and runs through the 2026-27 season.

St. Ivany played most of the 2023-24 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. The 24-year-old finished with 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 54 games.

The 6-foot-3, 198-pound defenseman has played 117 career AHL games, all with the Penguins’ organization. Over two seasons, St. Ivany recorded 23 points (four goal, 19 assists) and appeared in two playoff games during the 2023-24 season.

He made his NHL debut against the Dallas Stars on March 22 and recorded his first career point on April 2 against the New Jersey Devils. St. Ivany played in 14 NHL games this season with Pittsburgh, finishing with the lone assist.

Prior to turning pro, St. Ivany played four seasons of college hockey. After tallying 30 points (seven goals, 23 assists) in 62 games with Yale University, he transferred to Boston College, where he finished with 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) in 53 games over two seasons.

The Manhattan Beach, California native has also represented the United States, playing in seven games at the U-20 World Junior Championship in 2019.

St. Ivany was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fourth round (No. 112) of the 2018 NHL Draft. He never played with the Flyers and joined the Penguins when he signed a two-year, entry-level contract as a free agent on Aug. 20, 2022.

The Penguins missed the playoffs for the second straight season after holding the NHL’s longest active postseason streak of 16 years. Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup three times over that span (2009, 2016, 2017).
