Already one of the busiest teams on day one of NHL free agency, the Nashville Predators were far from done, announcing the signing of four depth players Monday evening.

The team signed Vinnie Hinostroza to a two-year, two-way; forward Jake Lucchini to a two-year, two-way contract; defenseman Nick Blankenburg to a two-year contract that is two-way in 2024-25 and one-way in 2025-26, and goaltender Matt Murray to a one-year, two-way contract.
All the deals were worth $775,000 at the NHL level.
The 30-year-old Hinostroza had a goal and two assists in 14 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, spending the majority of 2023-24 with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, scoring 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 42 games.
Taken by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Hinostroza has 54 goals and 97 assists for 151 points in 374 career NHL games.
The 29-year-old Lucchini had two goals and three assists in 40 games with the Minnesota Wild last season. He also recorded 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 30 games with the AHL’s Iowa Wild. Undrafted, Lucchini has recorded 70 goals and 90 assists for 160 points in 267 career AHL games.
Blankenburg, 26, played 12 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, recording one goal. He appeared in 55 career NHL games, all with the Blue Jackets, scoring six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Before going professional, he captained the University of Michigan as a senior in 2021-22, and dressed for the U.S. in the 2022 World Championship.
Finally, the 26-year-old Murray went 14-15-2 with an .896 SV in 31 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars. He appeared in one NHL game last season, recording a 23-save shutout against the Wild. Murray has a 37-26-7 record with a .907 SV% in 71 career AHL games.

The time Gabriel Bourque had to change equipment for Cole Caufield
The American Hockey League isn’t for everyone. Cole Caufield learned this well when he was sent to Laval at the start of the 2021-2022 season. That’s what Les Sport’ischhh podcast photographer Bernard Olivier Loyer told us during the recording of the latest episode Bernard Olivier Loyer was an equipment manager for the Rocket when Caufield joined the team to get his bearings. He recounted how, when he first joined the team, Caufield was told he’d have to wear CCM instead of his usual Bauer gear – all because the AHL has a partnership with CCM that means only three players per team can wear anything other than CCM. According to Bernard Olivier Loyer, Caufield really didn’t like the announcement and even called Marc Bergevin directly to ask for his Bauer gear back. The problem is that the three players who use different equipment are often team leaders or veterans with many years of professional experience. Caufield, on the other hand, was arriving there in his first full professional season. He finally got what he wanted and was able to play with his Bauer equipment thanks to Gabriel Bourque, who agreed to wear CCM until Caufield’s recall. His only visible piece of equipment that wasn’t CCM was his Warrior stick, and you’d have to be a real badass to change sticks like that, considering it’s perhaps the most important piece of equipment in hockey. Steelers Teammates Are Noticing Great Differences From Aaron Rodgers: 'A Guy That's Bought In'
The Pittsburgh Steelers have an interesting quarterback situation that has been monitored by NFL fans throughout the 2025 offseason. The organization was in pursuit of four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers for over three months, and the quarterback finally signed a one-year deal. He was then in Pittsburgh for mandatory minicamp. He is the unquestioned starter heading into the 2025 season, and he is coming off of a quietly good season with the New York Jets in 2024 statistically. He was bouncing back from a serious injury, so it should be expected for him to play even better in 2025. Rodgers got better as the 2024 season went along after missing all of 2023, and he is now further removed from his Achilles injury. He has a decent amount of weapons on Pittsburgh's offense, and the team is expected to rely on its run game and defense once again. Rodgers won't be asked to do too much, which should be a recipe for success for the 41-year old quarterback. Will Howard spoke to the media in Latrobe, PA on Thursday morning, and he had nothing but great things to say about the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh. The 41-year old has been heavily criticized in the media in the past for being a bad teammate, but every report that has come out of Pittsburgh has suggested otherwise. Rodgers has already expressed his willingness to mentor Howard and show him the ropes as he goes through his rookie season, which is something that has gotten a lot of the fan base in Pittsburgh excited about the addition of Rodgers. Rodgers has always been misunderstood throughout his career. He has been blamed for countless things that simply weren't his fault. It seemed that everything that went wrong with the Jets was somehow because of the quarterback, despite the fact that the Jets organization has been one of the worst in all of sports over the last decade or so. The fan base in Pittsburgh was frustrated with the way Rodgers handled his free agency, as he seemed to drag out his signing with Pittsburgh. The quarterback said he was dealing with some things in his personal life that made him want to take his time, which some fans took issue with. After these new comments from Howard, the fans should completely flip in their opinions on Rodgers. He is approaching this job with the Steelers in a positive manner, he is bought in, and he is helping the younger guys on the roster. Steelers’ Offense Has A Chance To Be The Best Its Been With Aaron Rodgers The offense in Pittsburgh has been inconsistent, and sometimes absolutely stagnant in recent years. The run game has fallen apart at times, and the quarterback play has been abysmal on occasion. That shouldn't be the case in 2025, as Rodgers' experience and talent should be able to take the unit to the next level, especially if the offensive line can take a step forward. This will open up the run game, which will only help the offense as a whole. Rodgers will have an absolute animal to throw to on the outside in DK Metcalf, as well as some speedsters in Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson. Pittsburgh also rosters one of the best tight end rooms in the league with Pat Freiermuth, Jonnu Smith, and Darnell Washington. Rodgers will be able to end his career on a high note with these weapons, and the near-decade long draught of playoff success could come to a close.
Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan leaves behind a complicated legacy
On Thursday, wrestling icon Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea died at the age of 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s... WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans." Hogan was the first true superstar to emerge in the wrestling industry, capturing a casual audience worldwide and bringing new eyes to the sport. He was an unbelievable draw, both as a baby face and as a heel. From his time as an All-American hero to leading the New World Order and teaming with Randy Savage as part of the "Mega Powers," he has been a staple of the scene for decades. Who can forget his WrestleMania III moment, where he defied the laws of physics to body-slam a 520-pound Andre the Giant? Or, more recently, his match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 18? His last appearance on WWE RAW on Jan. 6 saw him booed throughout, highlighting the rocky legacy Hogan leaves behind. Hogan's universal popularity has plummeted in recent years, primarily due to a racism scandal that led to his removal from the Wrestling Hall of Fame, only to be reinstated in 2018. Nevertheless, the damage had been done. Hogan's outdated and unwelcome outlook on specific aspects of life derailed the final stanza of a legendary career. Still, there's no denying that without Hogan, the wrestling we know and love today wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be WWE on the world's largest streaming platform, or All Elite Wrestling, which is developing into one of the most successful challenger brands. Instead, there would be smaller, more localized promotions, all competing for a sliver of television time. Hogan popularized the sport by bridging the gap between the wrestling ring and Hollywood. During his time in the spotlight, Hogan appeared in movies such as "Rocky III," "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando," all of which helped bring his larger-than-life persona to a new audience. It's no surprise, then, that The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all made similar jumps in recent years. Hogan leaves behind an everlasting imprint on the wrestling world. Unfortunately, it comes with multiple asterisks; however, that doesn't change what he achieved as the first global wrestling star.
Raiders have whiffed on every recent major free-agent signing
The Las Vegas Raiders released defensive lineman Christian Wilkins on Thursday over a dispute regarding his recovery from a foot injury. The move comes just one year after he signed a massive four-year, $110M contract in free agency. Even worse, It continues what has been a disturbing trend of the Raiders completely whiffing on every major free-agent signing they have made since relocating from Oakland to Las Vegas prior to the 2020 season. Of the four highest-paid outside free agents they have made in the five years since that move, only one of them played more than one season with the Raiders before being let go, and none of them played more than two seasons. There is always a risk with free agency because you never truly know how a player is going to fit onto a new team, into a new system and how they will play until they actually put on the pads and start doing it. It's not uncommon for some of those big moves to end in disappointment. The concern for the Raiders is that all of their recent big moves have ended in disappointment, and it's a big part of why the team has had just one winning seasons over the past five seasons. Las Vegas mostly stayed out of the big-ticket free agent game this offseason, but still made some significant moves to change the organization. Along with hiring head coach Pete Carroll, they also acquired quarterback Geno Smith to provide some stability at a position that has been a consistent mess over the past few years. Carroll and the Raiders have big expectations this season, but the roster still has a lot of holes. The release of Wilkins on Thursday only adds another one that they may not have been expecting.
