Red Wings' Overlooked Goalie Could Suddenly Draw Edmonton Oilers' Interest

The Detroit Red Wings goaltender Sebastian Cossa could be of interest to the Edmonton Oilers on the trade market, according to a new report.

In Edmonton, the goaltending department has been widely criticized during the past two years' Stanley Cup Finals elimination. Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard may have made it to the finals, but it's safe to say the depth on the team is in another area of the lineup.

Edmonton's Goalie Situation Makes Targeting Sebastian Cossa Crucial

Even with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl carrying the offense, Edmonton hasn't been able to win a Cup, largely due to the defensive and goaltending issues.

Skinner is expected to return next season, despite underwhelming playoff performances that saw the goalie get a .889 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against average in 15 games.

This summer, many fans hoped to see Stan Bowman make some changes at these positions, but he mostly acquired forwards instead.

But other moves could come soon. Going after a goalie would make sense for the Oilers, and someone like Cossa could be a great fit.

Sebastian Cossa Remains Overlooked Despite His Potential

According to Bob Stauffer, Sebastian Cossa might of been hinted as a trade target for the Oilers. Cossa's path in Detroit has been anything but smooth. Injuries and inconsistencies have kept him in the AHL longer than expected, and four years after being drafted 15th overall, he's only played one NHL game. Now, with John Gibson locked in as Detroit's new number one, moving either Cossa or Cam Talbot wouldn't be shocking.
