Tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Rangers 3-0 to start their 2025-26 campaign. In a shocking move, Arturs Silovs got the start over Tristan Jarry on opening night for the Penguins. Many thought Silovs could start the season in the AHL. He ended up making the opening night roster and got the starting nod to kick off the season. Silovs ended up stopping all 25 shots he faced in the win. Pittsburgh acquired Silovs over the offseason from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.

Silovs won the Calder Cup last season with the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL. He was also named MVP of the Calder Cup Finals, going 16-7-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage, and five shutouts in the playoffs. Last season in 21 games, he went 14-5-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He also played in ten games for Vancouver after they dealt with injuries, going 2-6-1 with a 3.65 goals-against average and a .861 save percentage. The Penguins in the win got the game-winning goal from Justin Brazeau, who also added an empty-netter along with Blake Lizzotte en route to the victory.
