Roslovic to make Oilers debut, Mangiapane elevated to top line, and Walman set to return this week

The ol’ line blender has been busted out for the Edmonton Oilers ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the New York Rangers as Jack Roslovic prepares to make his Oilers debut.

He’s set to play on the Oilers’ second line alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Matt Savoie, replacing Andrew Mangiapane, who slides up to play alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

It’s been a strong start to the season for Mangiapane, who’s scored in each of the Oilers first two games of the year. Trent Frederic, who gets bumped off the top line right wing, had struggled there. He was quiet in the season opener against the Calgary Flames, and while he showed better in the Vancouver game, taking four shots on goal, Mangiapane’s elevation is well deserved.

Frederic will slide down to the third line to centre a heavy line with Vasily Podkolzin and Kasperi Kapanen, as Adam Henrique, Issac Howard and David Tomášek skated on the fourth line. Coming out of the lineup is centre Noah Philp, who scored his first NHL goal Saturday against the Canucks.

On the blueline, Troy Stecher will play alongside Darnell Nurse, replacing Alec Regula who was left shaken up after taking two big hits from Evander Kane Saturday. Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said he should return by the end of the team’s five-game road trip.

Stuart Skinner will get the start for the Oilers against the Rangers. In four career starts against the Rangers, he’s posted a 3-1 record, a .926 save percentage and a 2.25 goals against average.

The Oilers will get another pair of players back by the end of the week . Knoblauch said the team “hopes” to have forward Mattias Janmark back in the lineup this weekend, while Jake Walman is expected to return to the lineup on Thursday when the team visits the New York Islanders.

Both Janmark and Walman have been dealing with undisclosed injuries since pre-season, yet to make their season debuts.
