Seattle Kraken’s 2025-26 Report Cards: Vince Dunn

In the Kraken’s home and season opener on Oct. 9, Dunn already made a major impact on the team. He scored the first goal of the game and the season, just two minutes into their matchup against the Anaheim Ducks. The fact that the defenseman scored the first goal, and not a forward, is a testament to Dunn’s major impact on the Kraken’s score card. He went on to record three assists (two on Oct. 11 and one on Oct. 14) in the Kraken’s next two games, giving him a three-game point streak to start the season.

Dunn’s longest point streak was three games, but he had five separate ones throughout the season. His highest of these streaks was five points in three games from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8.

Impact on the Kraken

Dunn remains a part of the Kraken’s first defense pairing. He and Adam Larsson have shouldered the weight of the first defensive pairing since the beginning of their time in Seattle.

For the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Kraken’s coaching staff separated Larsson and Dunn to play around with other possible defense combinations in April. This separation did not last long, as the pair reunited before the end of the season.

Larsson and Dunn provide the Kraken a veteran presence on the blue line. Both have plenty of seniority in the NHL and an unmatched chemistry to boot. While Dunn provides the Kraken extra offense from the blue line, Larsson kicks in with additional defense on the back end. The pair makes for the optimal first defense pairing.

Future With the Kraken

This season is the final year of Dunn’s four-year contract with the Kraken. After the 2026-27 season, Dunn could hit the free agency market.

Dunn just received the honor of becoming an alternate captain, making both him and Larsson wearers of the “A.” Earning this honor is a testament to their belief in Dunn’s leadership, but is giving him the “A” a move to try and convince Dunn to stay with the team for another number of years? Only time will tell.

Overall Grade

For the 2025-26 season, Dunn receives an A. He had a major impact on the team defensively, as well as performing consistently offensively. In his five seasons with the Kraken, Dunn is the third overall points leader on the team, just under Jared McCann and Jordan Eberle. Since joining the Kraken, Dunn has been a benefit to the team.

Heading into 2026-27, Dunn will want to perform well to get another contract with Seattle. Hopefully, the added responsibility will make him want to stay with the team.
