Second Canadian Team Emerges as Frontrunner for Nazem Kadri: Would Reportedly Waive No-Move Clause

The Maple Leafs are no longer the frontrunners to land Flames' Nazem Kadri, as the Canadiens have emerged as a second Canadian club right in the mix.

NHL insider Nick Kypreos has revealed that Nazem Kadri has been linked to a new Canadian team. For the longest time, it appeared that the Flames forward could head back to Toronto, but now it seems like Montreal is right in the mix.

Nick Kypreos revealed that Nazem Kadri may be willing to waive his no-move clause for either of these two teams.

'Two teams that Kadri continues to be linked to are the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs.'

Kadri, age 34, is entering the fourth year of a seven-year deal he signed with the Flames back in 2022. He captured a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche prior to jumping ship for the Flames.

Calgary's recent struggles could push Kadri to an exit from the Flames

Unfortunately for Kadri, the Flames have not done well of late, and a move to either Montreal or Toronto could fast-track him back into the postseason.

Kadri's name has been widely talked about due to the shortage of available centers around the league. One particular team he has been linked to for the longest time, it seems, is the team that drafted him, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Montreal may have a thing to say about that now, though, especially after Kypreos' latest comments.

One thing's for sure is that Kadri loves Calgary and is in no rush to leave, but perhaps the temptation of the playoffs and even a Stanley Cup may be just what it takes to change his mind.

Kadri's no-trade clause will allow him to dictate any move, so with that in mind, we will see what's next for him, but all bets are off as to whether we see him in Flames colors next season.
