The Ottawa Senators entered the playoffs following a late-season push that helped secure their spot in the Eastern Conference field.

Ottawa finished the regular season with a 44-27-11 record and 99 points, improving from the 97-point season the year before and clinching a postseason berth for the second season in a row.

The team closed the regular-season strong, winning five of its final six games, including victories over fellow Eastern Conference contenders Tampa Bay and Carolina, but the Senators failed to win Game 1 against the Hurricanes.

Although Tkachuk couldn't help his team in the playoffs opener, he made an immediate impact in that game, dropping the gloves with Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal just three seconds after puck drop.

Away from the ice, however, questions about his future in Ottawa have continued to follow him.

In an exclusive interview with Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Tkachuk addressed speculation surrounding his future with the Senators.

“All the distractions that have happened this year have been nothing that I can control,” Tkachuk said. “For me, my mindset has always been just all that stuff, all that noise. Just don’t even listen to it.”

Tkachuk added that the ongoing speculation has not originated from him or the organization.

“People are always going to be talking about it,” Tkachuk said. “It’s never come from my mouth. I don’t think it’s ever come from the team’s mouth.”

Added Tkachuk: “At the end of the day, all I care about is winning a Stanley Cup. Winning one here and giving absolutely everything I have to this team.”

Ottawa trails the series 1-0 heading into Game 2, scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Carolina.
