According to PuckPedia, Sebrango’s new contract will carry an NHL cap hit of $775,000 and a minor-league salary of $140,000. He’s coming off his three-year, entry-level contract that he signed with the Detroit Red Wings in March 2021. That deal had an NHL AAV of $902,500 and a minor-league salary of $72,500.
At one point, Sebrango was looked at as one of the rising rearguards in junior hockey, making a name for himself with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. It led to the Red Wings taking him in the third round, 63rd overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. However, after turning pro, his development plateaued, resulting in his spending the first three seasons of his professional career in North America in the minors.
After parts of three seasons in Detroit’s system, playing for both their American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, and their ECHL farm team, the Toledo Walleye, the Wings traded the Ottawa native to the Senators in July 2023 as part of the deal that sent Alex DeBrincat to Detroit.
The 23-year-old finally made his NHL debut this past season, playing against the Washington Capitals on Jan. 16. He appeared in one more game before returning to the Belleville Senators, Ottawa’s primary affiliate. Sebrango didn’t register a point in almost 20 minutes of ice time in his first stint in the big leagues.
In Belleville, Sebrango had the best season of his AHL career. While serving as an alternate captain, he set career highs in goals (8), assists (12) and points (20). In 227 AHL appearances, he has notched 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points.
