Sharks owner wants nothing to do with Gavin McKenna

Do you know Hasso Plattner? We’re talking about the owner of the San Jose Sharks… who, however, is used to staying well away from cameras and public statements.Yes, that’s quite normal if you don’t know him. But that’s about to change.Quite unexpectedly, Plattner gave an interview to local media in San Jose. As Sheng Peng(San Jose Hockey Now) reports, Plattner talked about a number of topics, including Gavin McKenna… and clearly, he really, really doesn’t want to select the top prospect in the upcoming draft:

I told Mike [Grier, Sharks GM], I don’t want [Gavin] McKenna here!

Hasso Plattner

Plattner explains that he feels his club already has enough talented youngsters and seems keen to see his team take a step forward this year. He doesn’t see his club making the playoffs, that said… but he doesn’t seem to want to end up in the cellar for all that (and we can think of the fact that he wants to start seeing people in the stands again). But obviously, Plattner wanted to bring out the bad guy. He also took advantage of his interview to put quite a few people through the wringer. Whether it was Erik Karlsson (who wasn’t a good team player), Thomas Bordeleau (who is a bust in his eyes), Timo Meier (who was a good riddance given that he’s not a player you build your team around) or Doug Wilson Jr. (who was paid too much to draft poorly), the club owner didn’t hold back.

Clearly, then, Plattner had a field day with the media. But despite it all, he’s optimistic about what’s being built in his organization, and the now-retired Plattner intends to be around San Jose more often.Spacer title=’Overtime’]As long as it works!
