The San Jose Sharks announced Friday they signed goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to a two-year contract extension that will pay him $3 million per season through the 2027-28 campaign.

Nedeljkovic is 11-9-2 with a .902 save percentage (SV%) and a 0.6 5-on-5 goals saved above expected (GSAx) through 26 games in 2025-26. Now in his ninth NHL season, the 30-year-old netminder is 85-69-29 with a .903 SV% in 205 career regular-season games with the Sharks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes.

In his rookie season in 2020-21, he appeared in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Hurricanes, where he posted a 4-5 record with a .920 SV%. During that rookie campaign, he posted a 15-5-3 record with a league-leading .932 SV% and a sixth-ranked 5-on-5 GSAx of 9.7. He finished third in Calder Trophy voting.

Nedeljkovic also appeared in parts of seven seasons in the AHL, where in 182 career games he posted a 104-54-17 record with a .906 SV% and 15 shutouts. He was a major factor in the Charlotte Checkers’ 2019 Calder Cup championship, as he posted a 10-4 record with a .916 SV%.

Nedeljkovic, a 2014 second-round pick for the Hurricanes, has also scored several goals as a professional. His first-career goal came in December 2016 as a member of the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. He then “sniped” his first AHL goal in March 2018 with the Charlotte Checkers. In November 2023, he became the first AHL goaltender to score two career goals, where as a member of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he buried an empty-net goal.

Finally, he recorded the 19th goalie goal in NHL history in January 2025 as a member of the Penguins, while also becoming the first netminder to record both a goal and assist in a single game.

The Sharks are 30-25-4 with 64 points through 59 games in 2025-26, fifth in the Pacific Division and three points back of a Wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
