Sidney Crosby punches opposing player’s helmet off

Sidney Crosby is playing in the ice hockey world championship this year for the first time in a decade, and the Pittsburgh Penguins star proved on Sunday that he is taking the tournament very seriously.

Crosby, who is the captain of Team Canada, got into a minor scuffle during a 7-1 win over Latvia. Crosby and Latvia forward Martins Dzierkals got into a shoving match after a stoppage of play, and Crosby delivered a quick jab to the head.

The punch caused Dzierkals’ helmet to go flying off.

A short while later, Crosby received a slashing penalty for hitting Dzierkals with his stick. Crosby was understandably upset, as the “slash” looked a lot more like a tap.

Crosby is not exactly known for being a fighter, so some fans were surprised to see him mix it up. It was even more rare to see him deliver a blow that resulted in an opponent’s helmet flying off, though the fight was not nearly as intense as the last one we saw where that happened.
